Tryout Tips:
Academics
Get your grades up now! You must have a 2.0 or higher to tryout and no more than 1 NM.
Dance and Sideline Chants
To prepare for tryouts, girls should be working on their motion placement, sharpness and energy which will be evaluated on a dance and sideline chants.
Jumps
They should also be working on jump technique and flexibility. Each girl trying out will need to show her toe touch.
Tumbling
The girls will also have an opportunity to show any tumbling skills they have. Those trying out for all levels are expected to have a back-handspring or be enrolled in tumbling classes. Varsity will be expected to show a back-handspring during their tryout. (A spotter will be available for those who are close to the skill on their own, if we are able to conduct on campus tryouts)
Stunting
A huge part of cheerleading at Whitney High School is stunting and a lot of considerations must be made before creating effective stunt groups. The girls will work together to build successful stunt groups. Each will also be evaluated on their stunting technique and stunt safety.
Interview
Coaches will be having informal interviews with each girl so that we get to know each as an individual and their goals if on the team.
Note: Please do not plan any vacations during weeks that we have practice as all team members are expected to attend all practices.
